I thought about talking up Storm Large and the Balls on weekend music and art. I really like her music, find her performances amusing… and well, the hubby says she’s a work of art. He does like em tall, eh?
Years ago, I came across a little video of a woman called Storm Large performing her version of Hopelessly Devoted to You with a knife and let’s just say she has a whole ‘nother way of seeing the song. I loved it! I followed her career for awhile. Discovered the band in the Songfic to the right through her and when I loaded up that song, decided to look her up and see if she released a CD recently.
I had no idea she was on a show called Rockstar Supernova. I only have a few shows I watch and then I do other stuff. <g> But, she didn’t make it–as lead singer of a specific band–but that’s a good thing. She is too cool on her lonesome.
I once heard her refer to herself as a man with boobs. She’s six feet tall and gorgeous and leaves it all hangin’ out on stage. She constantly refers to herself as broad shouldered or big. Some think she’s vulgar, mouthy, raunchy and strange.
I like her. <g>
Here are a few videos. If you’ve never been introduced to Storm Large and the Balls, you can now say your education is complete.
There’s another version of this same performance on YouTube where she explains that to her, this is a scary, stalker song (Hopelessly Devoted To You). But this one shows her facial expressions.
And here is another funny one. It’s called I Want You to Die–a love song. She nearly loses her top in this one and a hand appears out of nowhere to fix. LOL!
Her live shows are just that… shows. They can be anything from naughty, lounge burlesque to rock your heart out heat. Now this song is fantastic, so stick past the strange intro. She talks a lot about being a big girl in school and getting picked on and this came from that.
And here she is on the show I didn’t even know about. Uh, you can probably guess the song isn’t really called What the What. It’s actually called Ladylike and that second word isn’t what. You can listen to the real version here on Myspace.
Her live show is all about redoing versions of famous songs her way. She even has one called Sweet Homey Muthaf*cka. <g>
For further investigation, she has a website. If you are offended by nudity, don’t go there. Oops, maybe being on television required taking those photos down. Don’t worry, if that’s why you’re going, it gets close enough. You might be able to find them here if you just have to see them. But I’ve been there. Done that… so I don’t feel like digging today.
